A bottle of gin in his hand, wrapped up in a dirty parka and lying on newspapers under the park bench is how Leo remembers waking up each morning. Living on the streets, with nowhere to turn to, he found himself unable to stop his alcohol addiction. He even tried cocaine, heroine, acid and much more, but never gave up his bottle of gin.

His ex-wife and daughter visited him several times at the park, bringing him blankets, food and trying to help him. They begged him to come home with them, but he always refused, thinking that they’d be better off without him. In return, their visits each time became less and less.

Living on the streets for 5 years drinking all day led Leo to develop an advanced case of hepatitis and cirrhosis. One morning, when Leo woke up, he wasn’t able to get up. With a stomach swollen to half its size, he lay half conscious until an ambulance finally came and took him to a hospital.

Each day, his stomach was drained of fluid, up to half a gallon each time. His daughter and ex-wife were told by the doctor that even if a liver donor was found, he wouldn’t live more than 6 months.

Once released from the hospital, Leo moved in with others who were trying to stop their drinking habits. However, even with being off the streets and in medical treatment, he was still in severe pain.

By then, his daughter was attending the Succeed in Life Center, and invited him. Even though when they arrived to the church Leo felt ashamed and avoided speaking to a pastors, his daughter led him to receive a prayer.

After going back a few times, Leo heard about the Campaign of Israel and about how the prayer requests would be taken to the Holy Land. He chose to take part and presented his entire disability check to God as a sacrifice.

After turning in his sacrifice, Leo went back to see the doctor, who was amazed at his miraculous recovery. After examining him, the doctor told Leo that the 6 months he had left to live were now 10 to 20 years. He no longer needed a liver transplant and today, he has his own growing business. He is free from alcohol and the life he now has is one he never dreamed of!
