"I press on towards the goal to win the prize..." Philippians 3:14

Are you heading nowhere?

walkingincirclessilcDo you think that you were born into this world by accident or for a purpose? What are you here for? Do you have an aim in life? Do you know where you are going, or at least where you would like to go?

The above questions are harder than they seem. Many people can't answer even one!

So let's understand a few things.

Everything God does is for a purpose. So if you exist it's because there is a purpose for your life. You were not born into this world by accident – nor were you born to suffer, because everything that God does is good. (Gen 1:31)

But when God made you, He also gave you a unique gift: the power to decide for yourself what you want to do with your life.

We were made free beings. We are free to choose any path we want in life, free to do whatever we want – but we should also know that our choices all have corresponding consequences.

Many people have been going about life blindfolded, just living from day to day and hoping for the best. They live their life as if they already had a predetermined destiny that will be fulfilled regardless of what they do.

You, child of God, cannot live this way. Rather, know what it is you want. Have a clear picture of where you want to go. Have goals and pursue them.

What do you think will happen to a car in motion with no steering wheel? And what would happen to a ship sailing without a helm? It would stay adrift at sea, being tossed wherever the wind blew...

In the same way, if you have no determined aim in life, even though you are a Christian, you will go nowhere! Your life will be just a series of events happening one after another with no order or sense. You will be spinning in circles.

Take time to set goals. You should have goals in your spiritual life, in your finances, love life, in your health and in your family. Have clear goals, specific and time-bound; long-term goals (5, 10, 20 years) medium term goals (1-5 years) and short-term goals (1-12 months). Of course God can easily change our direction, but if we are heading nowhere in the first place, we are giving Him nothing to work with. Those who are indecisive because they are unsure of God's will, are already out of God's will by making no choices at all. Set your goals, decide, and trust that God will guide you as you pursue them.

Remember that you will do much better if you fight to achieve your goals one at a time, and step by step.

PS. Remember: our ultimate goal should be to achieve and keep our salvation. It's the only goal that matters when we die, when all the other goals (achieved or not) will just fade away.
